Ex-England star Andy Sinton and Grace Academy Darlaston have opened the doors for the first time on their brand new Football Development Academy, giving students a new and exciting way to learn through sport.
Students are coached by Andy Sinton himself, who boasts 22 years’ experience as a professional footballer and years of experience as a professional football manager.
The programme gives students the opportunity to train like professional athletes, participate in a leading athletic development programme, and play competitive fixtures against other schools, colleges and academies.
Students will also attend various educational trips and experiences, obtain FA coaching badges and First Aid Qualifications, and study BTEC Level 3 sport alongside other Level 2 or 3 qualifications.
The two-year football and education course is open to all 16 to 19 year old students with an interest in football and sport, regardless of ability.
Speaking about the course, student Ryan Kay commented:
“The course is giving me the opportunity to play football while gaining further qualifications and experiences within the class room which will allow me to pursue my desired career in coaching.”
Student Matthew Shingler said:
“The work we do academically is really interesting and links that we have made to football makes it even more accessible. Having both the football and the work keeps me focused.”
Student Edward Prempeh added:
“I think that the football academy is good for us young people because it’s fun and it helps us get fit and links to education. It’s also good to have someone like Andy coaching us because he is experienced and has a lot of knowledge, so overall I think it’s good for us.”
Commenting on whey the course has the power to engage young people, ex-England star Andy Sinton said:
”I’ve seen the power of sport, and specifically football, to engage young people, and we believe that our new academy is a great opportunity for 16 to 19 year olds in the Darlaston area. It’s great to see so many students participating in the programme and already, in the short space of time, have shown huge levels of improvement in every aspect. It’s an enjoyable programme and it’s a credit to the students for their levels of application so far.”
Talking about this new approach to education, Carl Salt, Principal of Grace Academy Darlaston, said:
“Here at Grace Academy Darlaston, we are able to offer world-class facilities on-site and excellent teaching and pastoral care. The collaboration with Andy Sinton enables our students to develop their physical, communication and leadership skills and thus, widen their career opportunities”.
Andy Sinton’s company, One Game Football Group, is also endorsed by an all-star ambassadorial network such as Premier League Winner and England Star, Joleon Lescott, Sky Sports News Presenter and Journalist, David Garrido, and Former Celebrity Big Brother Winner and Youth Politician John Loughton – providing inspiration and support to young people all over the country.
