About the course

BTEC Sport offers students the opportunity to develop their understanding of sport as a whole. The course covers a wide range of topics within sport. Building on your prior knowledge this 2 year course will mix practical and theoretical aspects of sport and develop your understanding and knowledge across a range of subject areas.

Who is the course suitable for?

The aim of the course is to develop knowledge, understanding and application of a wide range of sporting theories ranging from how the body works and the effects of exercise to leadership in sport. Each unit will look at a different aspect of sport providing you with a solid foundation to progress further in education or employment within the sports sector. If you have a love of sport and would like to turn this love into knowledge and understanding of sport then this could be the right course for you.

Entry Requirements

GCSE C grade in English.

An enthusiasm for Sport.

A level 2 qualification in sport/PE would be desirable.

Why Study?

Sport Students will experience a breadth of aspects that contribute to the sporting world including The Principles of Anatomy, Fitness training and Testing, Practical Sports, Leadership in Sport and Work experience in Sport. Students will investigate the effects exercise has on the body, the different theories behind leading different groups of people, along with exploring their practical capabilities and how to improve them and experiencing work in the sporting sector. Each unit will develop different skills that can be applied not only in sport but also across other subjects and into future employment.

Progression Opportunities

Many students go on to higher education and choose a specific subject area within sport including Sport Studies, Sport and Exercise Science, Physical Education and Sports Coaching with the aim to follow a career in their chosen specialist subject. However others have also gained employment within coaching companies, health and fitness clubs and leisure centres to name a few.

The PE department also offer a wide range of enrichment activities after the academy day covering a wide range of sports that all students are encouraged to attend.

The Year 9 students' ambition and lack of fear is to be commended and it is evident many of them have already focused on making money from their own ideas.
