Tuesday 3rd July 2018 – Wednesday 4th July 2018, 8:15am – 3pm
These will be exciting days for new students who will receive an introduction to Grace Academy Darlaston. Be prepared for your child to return home enthusiastic about their new studies! They will experience creative curriculum events and be introduced to some exciting lessons.
Every school holiday we offer a range of different trips and events for both pupils and families. In the last few months we’ve offered families reduced rates on trips to Blackpool and the Harry Potter Studio Tour, and also put on student trips to Waterworld and Tamworth Snowdome. This year so far, well over half of our pupils have attended at least one holiday trip.
Sports Leadership Academy
Grace Academy Darlaston remains in the top ten schools nationally in terms of volunteering for the Sports Leadership initiative. Pupils have been volunteering their own time to lead sporting activities with primary schools in the local area. Activities include inter-school competitions, regional championships and students have even coordinated their own half-term sport days!
Academy Student Ambassadors
Our student council (Academy Student Ambassadors) meet regularly to discuss student opinions and suggest ideas on how to make the Academy better for students and staff. Initiatives have included meeting with the staff in the dining hall and discussing menu choices and the “Change One Thing“ survey, in which they have been working to get the new Academy building’s hallways more colourful and full of artwork.
At Grace Academy Darlaston, we are always looking to recognise and reward good behaviour, and this is achieved through special reward events. Last term we held an “Inflatable Mayhem” day for pupils who maintained high standards for the entire term. Inflatable assault courses, life-sized table football, and a mini laser quest arena all took place in our very own sports hall. At the end of the year we will be taking three hundred of our highest achieving students on a trip to Alton Towers.
As well as organising Curriculum visits during term time, we also invite special visitors into the Academy, who give talks and deliver speciality lessons to students. For example, a scientist/magician came in to amaze us all with some scientific illusions and it was the talk of the Academy days later! Other visitors include dance squad Stance, MOBO award-winning rapper GuvnaB and sports team Nomad, who discussed faith and choices in modern day life.
Enrichment and After-School Activities
At Grace Academy Darlaston, we offer an enrichment timetable full of different activities. For those who enjoy their sport we have football, rugby and netball sessions, and we even have a trampolining after-school club. For more artistically creative pupils we have dance, rock school and choir. We also have Breakfast Club every morning, lasting half an hour before lessons start where pupils can play games and chat with their friends before starting a new school day.
Primary Activity Days
Over the course of the year, we hold a wide range of special themed days for local Primary School pupils. Recent events have included:
The Magic of Science
Sporting activities and competitions
Cake decorating sessions
Designing, building and launching water rockets
