At Grace Academy Darlaston, we believe that every young person deserves to feel safe, supported and valued. Our pastoral care lies at the heart of everything we do, ensuring that students can thrive both academically and personally.
A Whole-School Commitment
Pastoral care is everyone’s responsibility. From classroom teachers to senior leaders, every member of staff plays a role in building strong, respectful relationships and creating a culture where students feel secure, cared for and motivated to succeed.
Our Pastoral Team
Our dedicated pastoral team provides specialist support and guidance to meet the diverse needs of our students. The team includes:
- Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy DSLs
- Heads of Year and Pastoral Leaders who oversee the wellbeing and progress of their year groups
- Safeguarding Manager, SEMH Mentor, and Welfare Officer who provide personalised support
- Tutors who are the daily point of contact for students and families
Together, the team works closely with students, families and external agencies to ensure that every child receives the right care at the right time.
How We Support Our Students
- Daily Tutor Time – building relationships, monitoring wellbeing, and reinforcing our academy values.
- Wellbeing Support – through mentoring, counselling referrals, and access to targeted interventions.
- Behaviour and Attendance Monitoring – ensuring students are supported to make positive choices and develop resilience.
- Safeguarding – robust procedures to keep every child safe from harm, with early help and intervention where needed.
- Celebration and Recognition – rewarding effort, progress, and contributions to academy life.
Working With Families
We value strong partnerships with parents and carers. Open communication is key, and our pastoral team is always available to provide advice, share progress, or offer additional support when challenges arise. Our Family Support Worker and Families First Lead are also available to support parents and carers in various ways.
Our Commitment
Pastoral care at Grace Academy Darlaston is about more than managing behaviour or supporting academic success - it is about nurturing the whole child. We are committed to developing confident, compassionate and responsible young people who are ready for the next stage of their lives.
Our pastoral team are here to ensure students are able to navigate academy-life and support with wider worries. If your child has any concerns, they can speak to any member of staff, who will ensure they are supported by the right team.
