Curriculum Overview

Grace Academy Darlaston celebrates the academic success of all its students. We are very proud of our achievements, which form the bedrock of our aspirations for every student entering the Academy. Students are encouraged to feel good about being successful and also, to feel confident about expressing views about the life and work of the academy. Whilst academic excellence is extremely important to us, equally so is development of character, talent and independence, and we set great store by these through our core values: ‘potential, respect, integrity, grace and excellence’. Through Sport, Drama, Music and many other extra-curricular activities, we create an environment in which these values can be promoted and sustained, and it is this that makes Grace Academy Darlaston an inspiring place to learn.

At Grace Academy, our curriculum has been designed to be inclusive for all students, and the specific needs of individuals are catered for in every lesson to ensure everyone is able to access high quality and engaging learning. Our aim is to develop and deliver a curriculum that prepares our young people for the 21st century: one that enables our teachers to become facilitators of learning. We provide a broad and varied selection of subjects, and our teachers encourage independent learning, which helps our students to become successful and self-sufficient lifelong learners.

Students who have not yet achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE English or Maths are supported through structured re-sit programmes, ensuring that all learners meet this important national benchmark.

Learning Journeys and Independent Study

To support academic success and encourage independent learning, every subject provides students with a detailed Learning Journey. These structured guides outline key content, assessment points, and skills progression that students will be undertaking, thus helping students to take ownership of their learning and track their progress confidently.

Our focus is not just on subject knowledge, but also on developing study skills, critical thinking and self-management—essential qualities for success beyond school.

Assessment and Academic Support

Students are rigorously assessed throughout their time in Post-16. Formal assessments are complemented by regular progress reviews, targeted intervention, and individual mentoring to ensure every student remains on track and achieves their potential.

We work closely with students and families to provide tailored support and feedback, with regular reporting and opportunities for parental engagement built into our calendar.

At Grace Academy Darlaston, we are equally committed to students' personal growth. All Sixth Form students participate in Core (CR) lessons every fortnight, covering:

  • Religious Education
  • Citizenship
  • Careers education, advice and guidance (CEIAG)
